Bobcat Arrival
February 16, 2010
Collins was moved from Karen's Keep (quarantine) to his outdoor enclosure, the former home of Carolina Tiger's snow leopards. He seems to be adapting quickly but is still unsure of all the new noises. Carolina Tiger staff are monitoring his behavior and hope that he will be added to the tour route soon. The name "Collins" was suggested by a volunteer in the tradition of other musically inspired Carolina Tiger animals, Elvis and Santana, because "Collins went on to have a successful career after Genesis".

On Wednesday, Carolina Tiger staff made a trip to Beech Mountain, NC to pick up a 10 year old bobcat from Genesis Wildlife Sanctuary, a wildlife rehabilitation center. Genesis had obtained the bobcat from another facility that had closed; the bobcat was originally surrendered by his owner. He is declawed on all four feet.
The bobcat is now in quarantine awaiting his medical exam, neuter, and a new name. He loves chatting with the Keepers when they arrive at the end of the day. He is perfectly comfortable in his new quarters in quarantine; but wait until he sees his outdoor enclosure complete with plenty or rocks and platforms to climb and a treehouse denbox!
